About the Journal

Journal of Rural Research (JRUR) is a specialized, double-blind peer-reviewed, open access journal that provides rapid reviewing and publication of articles in all areas of rural studies. It has published by the center of Excellent in Rural Studies and Planning, Faculty of Geography, University of Tehran, since 2011.

Journal of Rural Research (JRUR) is a multidisciplinary peer reviewed journal that publishes editorials, original fullā€length research articles, short communications, reviews, methodological papers, commentaries, case-reports and perspectives in the broad fields of rural research, including rural development, rural tourism, rural participation, spatial analysis, sustainable rural development, rural management, rural-urban linkages and other related areas.

JRUR is a quarterly journal, including Persian full-text and English extended abstract & bibliography. It is indexed and abstracted in Electronic Journals database, Islamic World Science Citation Center, Scientific Information database, Iranian Journals database and Computer Research Center of Islamic Sciences (NoorMags).


Aims and Scope

The aim of the journal is to provide a scientific medium for scientists and academicians all over the world to contribute, promote, share, and discuss over various new issues and developments in different areas of rural studies and development. So, JRUR’s subject areas include, but are not limited to the following fields:

  • Rural employment
  • Rural-urban linkages
  • Rural changes
  • Sustainable rural development
  • Rural policy and development
  • Spatial analysis in rural studies
  • Rural and trans-local aspect
  • Women studies in rural fields


Publication Policy: Open Access 

Journal of Rural Research (JRUR) is owned by Center of Excellence in Rural Planning, Faculty of Geography, University of Tehran and published by Negah Institute for Scientific Communication. Our philosophy in Negah journals is that all research is for the benefit of humankind and research is the product of an investment by society and therefore its fruits should be returned to all people without borders or discrimination, serving society universally and in a transparent fashion. That is why Negah provides online free and open access to all of its research publications. So, most of the publishing costs have been supported by University of Tehran, therefore, audiences can download and share the articles, freely.



Under  Bethesda Statement on Open Access Publishing (June 20, 2003), Journal of Rural Research (JRUR), as a member of Negah Journals, is fully compliant with open access mandates, by publishing its articles under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial licence (CC-BY-NC). Authors retain copyright of their work and can deposit their publication in any repository. This means that articles can be freely redistributed and reused by the author and others as long as the article is properly cited. Published articles in Negah Journals can be deposited immediately into an online repository or social network without any cost. Negah Journals articles can be emailed to colleagues, printed, archived in a collection, included in course-packs, and distributed without restrictions. Financial Policies

Article Processing Charges

As Center of Excellence in Rural Planning, Faculty of Geography, University of Tehran has supported most of the publishing costs of Journal of Rural Research (JRUR), article processing charge in the journal is limited for authors. Therefore, publishing an article in the Journal requires publication fee, 3.000.000 Rial (85 US$), that will be billed to the submitting author following the acceptance of an article for publication. Apart from this Article Process Charge, there are no submission charges, page charges, or color charges. 



As Journal of Rural Research (JRUR) has published as an open access electronic journal, so there is no subscription fee for audiences.



Journal of Rural Research (JRUR) hasn’t accepted and published any advertisement in the journal website and articles.
